France national team coach, Didier Deschamps, has announced the squad of 25 players for this year's Euro. Among them, there are only two Bundesliga players.
On May 17th, coach Didier Deschamps announced the preliminary squad for the French national team to participate in Euro 2024 in Germany.
Similar to the host team Germany, France has also revealed a list consisting of 25 players for Euro 2024 in June. In contrast to coach Julian Nagelsmann, French coach Didier Deschamps decided to select one less player than allowed, while Nagelsmann added one more player (27).
In the list of 25 players, Deschamps surprised many by only choosing two Bundesliga players: Kingsley Coman and Dayot Upamecano, both from Bayern Munich. Coman is still in the process of recovering from injury and therefore is considered a surprising choice.
Some French stars currently playing in the Bundesliga may feel disappointed with this announcement, among them Mohamed Simakan and Castello Lukeba of Leipzig, who surely hoped for a spot in the national team. Even players like Manu Koné of Gladbach, Enzo Millot of Stuttgart, and Hugo Ekitike of Frankfurt deserve to be called up, but none of them are on the list.

Not stopping there, Coach Deschamps continued to shock by calling up N'Golo Kante, who has been absent from the Les Bleus squad for the past 2 years and is currently "aging gracefully" in the Saudi Pro League.
Explaining his decision, Coach Deschamps said: "Kante has had a full season, albeit not in a European competition as he played in the Saudi Pro League, but he has fully regained his fitness. I believe that with his experience and foundation, I am confident that the French national team will be stronger because of him."
France will enter the tournament in Germany as one of the top contenders for the title - with the duo of Coman and Upamecano from Bayern likely to help them achieve even more success this summer.
