Man United fans believe that Erik ten Hag’s substitution decisions in the 3-3 draw against Porto show he is “waiting to be sacked.”
After the dismal 0-3 defeat at home to Tottenham on Sunday, Man United started brightly in the match against Porto. Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort in the 7th minute, before Rasmus Hojlund doubled the lead in the 20th minute on his first appearance of the season.
However, things soon took a turn for the worse. Pepe scored one goal before Samu Omorodion equalized from a cross that the Man United defenders failed to handle. The former Atletico Madrid forward then completed his brace early in the second half, turning the score around to 3-2.
Omorodion “bullied” both Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt throughout the match. Both were substituted in the 77th minute as Ten Hag changed his center-backs, bringing on Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, which surprised MU fans.
One fan wrote: “Maguire and Evans coming on while the midfield remains unchanged. Of course, Erik wants that $17 million.” Another angrily stated: “Maguire and Evans come on when we’re losing. Really?”
A third commented: “78 minutes have passed. Trailing 2-3. Who are you bringing on? Of course, it’s Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans.” A fourth sarcastically remarked: “Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire come on while Man United is down 2-3. So logical, come on, guys.”
However, the surprising twist was that Maguire scored the equalizer in stoppage time, which may have helped Ten Hag keep his job at MU.
