"The young stars' goals helped Manchester United defeat Newcastle 3-2 in the rescheduled match of Premier League round 34 of the 2023/24 season, taking place on May 16th.
Goals:
MU: Mainoo (31'), Diallo (57'), Hojlund (84')
Newcastle: Gordon (49'), Hall (90+2')
Playing at home, Manchester United had a promising start as usual. Erik ten Hag's squad continuously threatened Newcastle's goal with shots from the home team's attackers. Meanwhile, the "Magpies" also had some dangerous opportunities but failed to convert them into goals.
In a tight game, Manchester United surprisingly opened the scoring. In the 31st minute, from a somewhat hesitant pass by Amad Diallo, the ball accidentally went through Newcastle's defense and reached Kobbie Mainoo. The 18-year-old calmly struck a fierce shot into the far corner of the goal, giving Manchester United the lead.

Both teams then had a few more dangerous attacking situations but no more goals were scored, ending the first 45 minutes with an advantage for the home side.
The second half started with a bang as Newcastle quickly equalized just 3 minutes in through a beautiful combination, with forward Anthony Gordon scoring.
The pace of the game was then pushed up quickly as both teams continuously exchanged counter-attacks. After several missed opportunities, the next goal came, and the home team were the ones to experience the joy of celebration. Starting from a corner kick, the ball found Amad Diallo's foot, and he quickly unleashed a decisive shot that gave the Newcastle goalkeeper no chance to save.
Eddie Howe's team fought back strongly after conceding, but before they could find the equalizer, they paid the price when they conceded a goal after a dribble and shot by Rasmus Hojlund. It wasn't until injury time that Newcastle's subsequent efforts led to a consolation goal by Lewis Hall, thus ending the match with a 2-3 defeat to Manchester United.
With the 3 points gained, Manchester United keep a faint hope of qualifying for the Champions League in the next season as they level on points with their direct rival Newcastle. Both teams have 57 points, but the team from Old Trafford remains in 8th place due to inferior goal difference.
Meanwhile, in the match between Brighton and Chelsea in the rescheduled match of Premier League round 34, the away team, with the excellent performances of Cole Palmer and Nkunku, secured a convincing 2-1 victory for The Blues right at Brighton's home ground. This result still helps Chelsea solidify their 6th position in the league standings.
