Lookman officially enters the history of the Europa League

Forward Ademola Lookman has become the first player to score a hat-trick in a UEFA Cup or Europa League final, helping Atalanta to a magnificent victory over Leverkusen and clinching the title.

In this year's Europa League final, Leverkusen was considered the stronger team against Atalanta, but the events on the field painted a completely different picture. Xabi Alonso's squad appeared entirely outmatched by the determination of the Atalanta players, constantly having to fend off dangerous attacking situations.

After several goal-scoring opportunities, the Italian team managed to break the deadlock with a goal from forward Ademola Lookman following a sharp combination play in the 12th minute. Less than 15 minutes later, Leverkusen paid the price once again as they succumbed to Lookman's prowess once more. Lookman's perfect day on the pitch was affirmed with a goal in the closing minutes of the second half, completing his hat-trick and helping Atalanta clinch the Europa League title.

With his hat-trick, Lookman has made history by becoming the first player to achieve this feat in a UEFA Cup or Europa League final. Additionally, Lookman is also the first African player to score 2 or more goals in a European competition final. Furthermore, the 26-year-old forward is the third Nigerian player to score in a European competition final, following Alex Iwobi (Europa League 2019) and Joe Aribo (Europa League 2022).

Lookman is having an incredibly impressive season with Atalanta, contributing to 23 goals in total, including 15 goals and 8 assists. His significant contributions have helped Atalanta thrive in Serie A and reach the Europa League final.

With their triumph in the Europa League, Atalanta has made history by becoming the first Italian team to win the Europa League title, a trophy that had previously been dominated by the giants from Spain, England, and Germany. This achievement is highly deserved, considering Atalanta's performance this season, overcoming formidable challenges on their path to championship glory.
