This is the first European Championship for the Serbian national team as an independent country, as historically, many Serbian players have participated in the finals wearing the jerseys of Yugoslavia, Serbia, and Montenegro.
In the qualifiers, Serbia was placed in Group G along with Hungary, Montenegro, Lithuania, and Bulgaria. The Serbian team was considered one of the two favorites to secure a spot in the finals alongside Hungary.
Under the guidance of coach Dragan Stojković, the team finished the qualifiers with 4 wins, 2 draws, and only 2 losses, securing the second spot overall and earning their ticket to Germany. Their performances were characterized by bravery, passion, and enthusiasm, which are the most notable aspects of Serbia's play. These qualities, highly praised by experts, are expected to lead to surprises in the upcoming tournament.
