The Premier League has received a request to conduct a vote in June regarding the removal of VAR in the 2024/25 season.

"Wolves stated that VAR has caused unforeseen consequences, damaged the relationship between fans and football, and eroded the brand value of the Premier League," Wolves said.

According to the Molineux-based team, VAR has had a negative impact on goal celebrations, causing confusion and disappointment in the stadium due to prolonged VAR checks, and generating hostility from fans.

Furthermore, Wolves directly stated that VAR has failed to fulfill its mission, which is to correct referee mistakes: "Now, referees abuse VAR, affecting the flow of the match. The presence of VAR also diminishes the authority of referees, disrupts the natural pace of the game, and creates unusually long injury time."

Ending the request, Wolves expressed dissatisfaction with VAR frequently making unconvincing decisions: "VAR tarnishes the reputation of the Premier League and encourages corruption."

Immediately, the Premier League responded to Wolves' request: "We are entirely open to creating a discussion about VAR with member clubs at the Annual General Meeting on June 6th. Clubs have the right to make proposals, and we will take note of concerns about VAR usage."

According to regulations, to repeal or change anything in the Premier League, the proposal must receive approval from 14 out of the total 20 participating teams.

This season, VAR has raised many technical questions, as referees have made too many mistakes. Even in the match between Tottenham and Man City on May 15th, the referee team overlooked Kevin De Bruyne's offside situation when assisting Erling Haaland to open the scoring.
