The Spanish national team receives the most unfortunate news on the eve of Euro 2024.

The Spanish midfielder, Isco, has suffered a fractured ankle on his left leg and is definitely ruled out of Euro 2024, according to the latest announcement from his club.

This news is extremely unfortunate for Isco personally and the Spanish national team as a whole because clearly, the 32-year-old player has proven himself to be one of the outstanding performers in La Liga this season, a strong candidate for the La Liga Player of the Year award, as well as one of the first stars to be called up for Euro 2024.

Earlier this week, coach Luis de la Fuente had praised the former Real Madrid player and suggested that he could secure a spot with the national team for Euro.

De La Fuente said in an interview on Teledeporte: "He is having a magnificent season and he definitely has a chance. He hasn't been with us due to various obstacles. We all know about Isco's talent. I openly declare myself an admirer of Isco."

However, hopes of having Isco in De La Fuente's squad have evaporated as the club confirmed the seriousness of Isco's injury.

In a statement, the club stated: "Following tests conducted with Isco Alarcon today, the medical team confirmed that he has suffered a fracture to the fibula in his left leg. The club's medical staff will assess the need for surgical intervention to address the injury in the coming hours."

This news is extremely disheartening for the Spanish national team, especially as the announcement of the Euro 2024 squad is imminent.

Isco has resurrected his career since moving to the white and blue-striped team but recently suffered an unexpected injury in the 2-2 draw against Las Palmas.

The player, who had won the Champions League five times before, had also been sidelined for two months earlier in the year due to muscle issues but has fully recovered and is eagerly anticipating his return to the Spanish national team after a long absence.

Isco has made a total of 38 appearances for the national team, but his last outing in the red shirt was back in June 2019.
